Just a little info.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is just one modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), all of which have minimal side effects. This holistic medicine dates back more than 2,000 years and also includes massage (Tui Na), cupping, moxabustion, Chinese herbs, and other healing modalities. Traditional Chinese Medicine is still a major form of healthcare used in modern day China, as well as in many other countries around the world.

How does acupuncture work?

There is both an Eastern and Western explanation for how acupuncture works. Western medicine research has found that acupuncture elevates endorphin and other opioid levels (the feel good hormones), increases blood circulation and white cell count, and decreases inflammation.

In the Eastern sense, acupuncture balances yin and yang and smooths the circulation of blood and energy throughout the body.  There are pathways of energy throughout the body called meridians, and specific acupuncture points are selected along the meridians to balance the body.  The concept behind the medicine is that if the body is out of balance, or energy is stuck, then it can cause many health concerns including pain.

How are you accredited/licensed?

Practitioners of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine in the U.S. are licensed and governed through the respective acupuncture board of the state in which they practice. The California Acupuncture Board requires that one must graduate from a state-approved program of at least 3,000 hours, in addition to passing the state board's examination.

In addition to holding a California Acupuncture Board license (AC 13441), Miranda also has her National License (NCCAOM).
